Safety Officer

Good safety management is crucial to the bottom line of any business and also ensures the work environment is healthy and safe. It is also critical to be compliant with OHS Legislation, Regulations and Codes as non-compliance can result in hefty penalties and increased insurance premiums.

Safety Officers have an important role to play in influencing and contributing to an organisation's health and safety goals by being vigilant and effective, and spending time developing plans and sharing vision and expertise.

The duties include ensuring compliance with OHS legislation, standards and regulations, inducting new employees in OHS practices, developing and maintaining a high level of safety awareness, implementing hazard and risk management processes in all facets of work on site, providing training, knowing what to do in an emergency, carrying out workplace safety inspections, attending meetings of the OHS Committe and conducting Hazard Hunts and Audits.
